SEMINAR “DESIGN OF TUBULAR STRUCTURES USING HIGH PERFORMANCE STEELS”
The School of Civil Engineering and Management is pleased to announce that Professor Ben Young from Hong Kong Polytechnic University will visit IU and talk about his research. All faculty members and students are welcome to attend the seminar.

Brief biography: Professor Ben Young is the Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) and Chair Professor of Steel Structures at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, overseeing the institutional policies and plans related to student development and culture promotion as well as the global engagement endeavours in educational initiatives involving the establishment of partnership with leading universities and strategic partners all over the world. He is an advisory member of the American Institute of Steel Construction for the Committee on Structural Stainless Steel. He is also a committee member of the SEI/ASCE-8 Specification for the “Design of Cold-formed Stainless Steel Structural Members”, American Society of Civil Engineers. Furthermore, he also served as the Chairman of the Structural Division, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. His research interests include cold-formed steel structures, high strength steel structures, stainless steel structures, aluminium structures and fire resistance of metal structures. Professor Young is currently a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Constructional Steel Research, ELSEVIER. He has published over 670 international journals and conference papers, of which over 370 of these publications are SCI indexed journal papers with over 13,500 citations. He has an h-index of 60 on Scopus. He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He also received the Shortridge Hardesty Award for his research contributions to the stability design of cold-formed steel and stainless-steel structures given by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2020.
